The Beat It Tournament is open to any parties interested in playing. Update: Registration is now closed. Non-league teams, please join in! Take on the league teams and try to deflate their egos! League players, this isn't part of the season, so feel free to shake things up and try out playing with a different roster. Of course you're welcome to keep the team together if you want to either keep the momentum rolling from the season, or try to change your squad's luck. Everyone will be guaranteed at least four games; the exact number will be announced once the number of teams participating is known. As always a cash prize goes to the champion.
There will also betwo a side attractions featured at the Beat It Tournament: a home run derby and the All-WSEM Game. The derby is an optional other way to walk away with some money. Different types of bats will be available for use in the derby. Depending on the bat you choose to use it will cost between $1 and $5 to enter, and the entire purse will go to the derby champion. The first round will go on throughout round robin play; walk up and take your swings when you have a spare moment and your pose properly practiced. The top four will move on to a semi-final, numbers will not carry over, and the top two after that round will swing once more to determine the derby champion. The All-WSEM Game will be a treat to watch between the round robin and playoffs while the bracket is being set up. Two teams made up of the top ten WSEM players face off in a five inning game for bragging rights and to show everyone just who the best of the best really are.
Rules can be found at this link, http://wiffleinsemirules.blogspot.com. For tournament play they are identical to what is used in league play, with only a few noted exceptions. The first two differences are both to keep things progressing on schedule: a time limit on games (30 minutes for round robin games, 45 minutes in the playoffs) and starting in the seventh inning a baserunner will start the inning at second base. We will also be test-driving two new rules we plan to implement in the 2012 season at this tournament. The first of these is to establish pitching rotations. The rule will play as follows: if a pitcher throws more than 2.0 innings in a game (including 2.0+), they are then ineligible to pitch in the next game. If a pitcher throws 7.0 (including 7.0+), they are unable to pitch in the nest two games. Also, when a pitcher is taken off the mound, they may not return as a pitcher during the game in progress. The second rule change is that runners can now tag up from any base on a fly ball. In addition, when a runner tries to advance on a tag up fielders may either peg the runner or apply a tag for the out. Pegging applies only to tag ups from 1st to 2nd/2nd to 3rd or on any play from 3rd to home. If any other rule changes are enacted, we will publicize them thoroughly on this site as well as Facebook.
